Job Description

This academic credit/external sponsorship internship, beginning in June 2018, is an opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year or graduate students with an interest in technology policy to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom in a professional environment.

This unpaid internship offers meaningful, practical work experience related to the student’s field of study or career interest. It will provide an opportunity for career exploration, professional development, and a chance to learn new skills.

Learning Objectives

Interns will have an opportunity to learn a variety of research skills such as summarizing scholarly literature, collecting and manipulating data, and editing written products. Research topics include but are not limited to science and technology policy, global public health, and digital inclusion.

Interns will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events as well as participate on Brookings sports teams and network with other interns throughout the Institution.

Education/Knowledge/Skills

Undergraduate students (who have completed their sophomore year) from any major; inter-disciplinary backgrounds are a plus. We welcome applications from majors in the social sciences and humanities as well as the natural sciences and engineering fields, including computer science. Recent college graduates are also eligible to apply.

A successful intern is someone who learns quickly, is highly motivated, and wants to learn how to conduct policy research. We will closely review applications from candidates who signal a keen interest in any topic at the intersection of public policy and science, technology, and innovation. This position requires strong social media skills, excellent verbal and written communication, time-management and organizational skills, and ability to synthesize technical details from multiple sources.

Additional Information

Successful completion of a background investigation is required for interning at Brookings. Successful applicants will additionally be required to provide two letters of recommendation or contact information for two references.
