Position Dates:

Compensation:  Course Credit

Prerequisites:  Third year level student or higher in a baccalaureate program; or graduate studies

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to organize large amounts of information, with high attention to detail
  • Be positive and responsive, and show a high level of professionalism
  • Dress appropriately for a business atmosphere
  • Be trustworthy and capable of handling sensitive information

Duties and Responsibilities: Attorney General Chris Carr believes that communication is key in successfully fulfilling the duties of this office. In this role, you will serve as an ambassador for the Office of the Attorney General, and you will, at times, have an opportunity to interact with General Carr. We are looking for a hard-working, dedicated individual who is not afraid to bring thought-provoking ideas to the table for discussion. The primary purpose of the externship is to support the Office of the Attorney General’s Communications Director. Potential tasks associated with this include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct research for talking points
  • Prepare first drafts of talking points
  • Prepare first drafts of press releases
  • Conduct research for opinion editorials
  • Organize and take photos at public events
  • Assist in coordinating media requests
  • Generate and monitor content for the office’s digital platforms
  • Create graphics to be used on digital platforms
  • Assist in coordinating the implementation of staff-wide communication strategies
  • Prepare daily news clips

  • Monitoring and tracking all movement and conversation about legislation relevant to the Office of the Attorney General
  • Work independently and prepare information for the rest of the Legislative Affairs and Policy team
  • Assist in correspondence with state legislators in terms of writing and keeping our internal database updated
  • Researching best practices and recommending policy initiatives to AG staff
  • Preparing memos and other documents outlining public policy issues in Georgia
  • Identifying and understanding legislative initiatives in other states and their effects
  • Communicating and collaborating with other state agencies regarding current and ongoing public policy initiatives
  • Staying current and up to date on state and local matters impacts Georgia’s citizens
