Energy Access Intern, UN Foundation – Washington, DC

Overview

The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women’s empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.

The Foundation’s Energy and Climate Department has worked for two decades to help move the world toward a cleaner, climate-friendly energy future. It is now a respected platform for bringing together policy makers, academics, business leaders and the UN to lead the way toward a low-carbon future.

The UN Foundation has been engaged over the past decade in building momentum and high-level support for access to sustainable energy, including for the establishment of a standalone Sustainable Development Goal for energy and the launch of Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL). Today, we support the UN’s efforts to expand energy access by:

Building critical market infrastructure by advocating for and coordinating the off-grid energy market through the Energy Access Practitioner Network and the Mini-Grids Partnership.
Working to help ensure that sustainable energy solutions benefit the most vulnerable and hardest-to-reach populations, with a focus on enabling quality health services – particularly for women and children – through our Powering Health Care initiative on innovative clean energy solutions in resource-constrained environments.

Responsibilities

Provide communications support, including drafting tweets, live-tweeting webinars and events, drafting website content, and compiling content for monthly newsletters
Provide administrative and event management support, including printing materials, tracking invitations, and assisting with day-of event logistics
Support staff by preparing background materials and conducting research as necessary;
Assist with managing program data, including contacts, materials, records, etc.;
Other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development.
Must be detail-oriented and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with social media management, communication and/or data analysis a plus.
Ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities.
