NSA Intelligence Analyst Development Program

NSA’s mission is to help protect national security by providing policy makers and military commanders with the intelligence information they need to do their jobs. NSA’s priorities are driven by externally developed and validated intelligence requirements, provided to NSA by the President, his national security team, and their staffs through the National Intelligence Priorities Framework.  NSA Intelligence Analysts are at the forefront of implementing this mission.

NSA Intelligence Analysts perform a wide range of analytic tasks, including the following: research relevant sources for information on foreign intelligence targets; develop query strategies to obtain relevant information; analyze foreign target intelligence; assess validity and relevance of foreign intelligence; profile foreign targets and their activities; produce intelligence reports that address customer information needs; perform target discovery by developing strategies to obtain new information and sources for intelligence; and/or monitor target data for changes or anomalies. Additionally, NSA Intelligence Analysts are expected to take an inclusive approach to problem solving and mission accomplishment by frequently engaging with partners, enablers and customers across the Intelligence Community.

Applicants with less than 5 years of Intelligence Analysis cryptologic experience will be hired into the Intelligence Analysis Development Program (IADP). The program, which lasts up to three years, is designed to provide an intensive, accelerated opportunity to acquire the unique technical skills and experience needed to successfully apply knowledge and analytic ability to the Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) mission and help analysts achieve core analytic competencies in accordance with the Intelligence Analysis Professional Development Standards (IAPDS).  The program includes 4-5 operational tours in a variety of offices, interspersed with formal classroom and computer-based training. These on-the-job operational tours are primarily focused on the two main SIGINT disciplines of intelligence analysis – SIGINT reporting and SIGINT development.
