Democracy, Interdependence & World Politics Summer Research Program

In Summer 2013, the Department of Political Science at Texas Christian University will host the annual Democracy, Interdependence and World Politics Summer Research Program for undergraduates. This program presents a valuable opportunity for students to conduct faculty –mentored research projects. Supported by stipends, research funds, and travel funds, students will work in one of several issue areas: Foreign Policy in a Democracy; Interdependence and Foreign Policy; Democratization and Democracy Promotion; and Interdependence, Democracy and Conflict.

The program provides undergraduate students with valuable research experience funded by the National Science Foundation’s Research Experience for Undergraduates program, along with additional funding from the Department of Political Science and the AddRan College of Liberal Arts at TCU.

Participants will spend about 8 weeks at TCU (June 2 – July 27) in Fort Worth, Texas during the summer of 2013, where they will work with a team of faculty members and visiting scholars to develop research questions and design and complete projects within the issue-areas just noted. Supporting activities include research methods seminars, intensive project development workshops, guest presentations by visiting scholars, and community-forming events. Student participation culminates in a presentation of papers at the International Studies Association annual conference in Spring 2014 (if accepted). Additionally, each year visiting scholars specializing in the programs issue areas will participate, lending their insights and expertise to the program and to student projects.

Student Participants receive the following support:

•   A stipend of $4,000.

•   Room and board at TCU for the duration of the program.

•   A small travel allowance (non-TCU students).

•   Funds for participation in a conference in the subsequent spring (up to $900 per student).
