Wellness Requirement Changes at GT for Fall 2013

(1) The current wellness requirement, HPS 1040, Health Concepts and Strategies, has undergone a prefix and course name change. The new course will be APPH 1040, The Scientific Foundations of Health.

(2) A new course option will be offered that combines lecture with structured physical activity. The new course, APPH 1050, The Science of Physical Activity and Health, is a two credit hour course that meets twice per week: one day for 1.5 hours of lecture and one day for 1.5 hours of physical activity at the Campus Recreation Center. Students will sign up for a section based upon their activity preference (Fall 2013 offerings are Running, Weight Training, Yoga, and Fitness 101*).

Students may now choose either course option to satisfy the wellness requirement. (Please note that a $35 course fee will be applied to those who register for APPH 1050. In addition, students are required to sign a liability waiver prior to physical activity participation). *Fitness 101 is intended for beginner exercisers and focuses on warm-up, circuit strength training, cardiovascular conditioning, and cool-down/stretching techniques.
