Operations or Organizing Internship – Amnesty International – Various Locations

OPERATION INTERNSHIP

The Membership Mobilization Department focuses on cultivating and mobilizing grassroots activists around Amnesty International USA’s priority campaigns and issues areas. The Operations Intern(s) will work closely with either the Deputy Membership Director in Atlanta or the Operations Coordinator in San Francisco to build and support systems, processes, and programs within the department and develop the capacity of AIUSA staff.

Interns will learn about, and support staff with, day-to-day operations of a non-profit organization, department coordination, strategic planning, budgets, outreach and recruitment, database management, drafting and proofreading internal and member communications, and conference and event planning. Administrative duties might include database maintenance, budget tracking, answering phones and replying to member inquiries and requests. We strive to provide a variety of opportunities, including intern specific trainings and seminars, for both professional development and growth as a human rights activist.

Qualifications: We hold interns to professional standards and give preference to candidates who are not only passionate about human rights work but also take initiative and are open and willing to work hard on anything that is needed to support AIUSA’s mission. Additional criteria:

  • Commitment to and interest in human rights and social justice
  • Motivated and able to work independently
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Keen attention to detail is required
  • Well organized and ability to multitask efficiently
  • Professionalism, great attitude and creativity
  • Good with numbers, solid Excel skills, and apt for logistics preferred
  • Experience analyzing data and database management preferred
  • Graphic design and video editing skills a plus

Commitment: Applicants are expected to commit at least 15 hours a week for a minimum of 14 weeks. Full-time internships and longer commitments are preferred. Candidates can apply for any of the three sessions offered: Spring (Jan – May), Summer (May – Sept), Fall (Sept – Dec).

ORGANIZING INTERNSHIP

Organizing interns will work closely with Field Organizers to recruit and train new activists, build and support local and student groups, develop the capacity of AIUSA members to be effective human rights leaders, and educate the public on human rights issues.

Interns will learn about, and support Field Organizers with, strategic planning, outreach and recruitment, event planning, organizing rallies and protests, and promoting human rights work through media and social media. Administrative duties will include database maintenance, budget tracking, answering phones and replying to member inquiries. We strive to provide a variety of opportunities, including intern specific trainings and seminars, for both professional development and growth as a human rights activist.
