Spring 2018 Paid Legislative Lobby Internship, Nelson Mullins Firm – Atlanta, GA

Legislative Intern Position
National law firm with major office in Atlanta seeks an intern to work with its dynamic, seasoned lobbyists for the Georgia General Assembly’s legislative session beginning January 2, 2018. This position is full-time set to end April 15, 2018, with the potential for post-session work. Hourly pay at a rate commensurate with experience with opportunities for overtime.

Duties:

· Attending legislative committee meetings and preparing summaries for distribution to clients, Firm constituents, and the general public.
· Reading and analyzing legislation and providing interpretation and awareness to key issues to the Firm’s lobbyists and clients on-the-fly
· Assisting with logistics related to hosting clients at the State Capitol and events for lawmakers, including communicating and coordinating with legislative staff
· Preparing and updating legislative meeting calendars for the Firm’s lobbyists
· Preparing individualized bill tracking and content summaries for clients
· Participating in drafting and production of the Firm’s daily legislative report that is distributed to clients, Firm constituents, and the general public

Required Skills and Qualifications:

· Keen listening and notetaking skills
· Clear, concise writing style
· Excellent verbal communication ability
· Self-starter with can-do attitude and willingness to work until the job is done
· Understands Georgia’s legislative process
· College graduate preferred
· Experience with legislative or legal research, as well as health, educational, and judicial policy a plus
