Peer 2 Peer (P2P) Competition on Challenging Extremism

edVenture+Partners_5238ad7c-e939-42a5-981e-c27fff85cf8c-prvP2P: Challenging Extremism is a hands-on, experiential learning program for university students across the globe that is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and Facebook and managed by EdVenture Partners.

Teams from over 95 universities in 30 countries have participated in P2P: Challenging Extremism thus far. The initiative will be expanding into its 4th iteration for the upcoming fall 2016 term. EdVenture Partners is currently accepting a select number of university participants. Spots are limited.

Overview

  • Student teams are challenged to develop a social or digital initiative, product or tool to counter hate speech and extremism among their peers, community or country
  • Each team receives $2,000 (USD equivalent) to implement their P2P campaigns over the fall 2016 term
  • Student teams submit a comprehensive overview of their campaign results and effectiveness to compete for top honors and awards

International Competition Element

The top six teams:

  • Receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. (up to five students and a faculty/educator from each team)
  • Present to the U.S. Department of State and other U.S. government inter-agency partners and compete in the Facebook Global Digital Challenge
  • Compete for scholarship awards ranging from $5,000 to $1,000

Timeline*

  • The fall 2016 program launches in August 2016
  • Team submissions will be due in November 2016 for judging
  • Competition element in Washington, D.C. late 2016 or early 2017
  • Upon successful completion of the P2P program, a $500 USD grant is made to participating faculty/educators

Eligibility

  • Both undergraduate and masters level university students
  • Program may be incorporated into a variety of courses including, but not limited to, marketing, international relations, political science, human rights, conflict and terrorism studies, communications, media studies, advertising and other related disciplines
