The academic advising experience at the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs is hands-on and personal. It is a relationship in which both the advisor and student contribute. The goal is to provide a supportive and challenging environment in which students can explore academic and career options, discuss concerns, and creatively construct an undergraduate or graduate experience that helps achieve personal, academic, and career goals.
There are expectations of advisors and students during academic advising. Students can expect respect and individual attention. In turn, students are expected to keep appointments, follow-up on resources suggested, and arrive to advising meetings prepared. It is also expected that students should arrange at least one advising appointment per year to confirm that all academic requirements are being met. Together, students can work with advisors to maximize their experience here at Georgia Tech and the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs.
Stephanie Jackson is the Assistant Director for Advising & Professional Development at the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs. Stephanie joined the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs in 2005 and serves as the Undergraduate Advisor and International Plan Coordinator. She provides student services support to all INTA, IAML, and EIA undergraduates as well as career guidance to all undergraduate and graduate students within the Nunn School. Stephanie is Past President of the Georgia Tech Academic Advising Network (GTAAN). In this role, she set the GTAAN agenda and ran general and executive board meetings, served on various campus committees as Academic Advising representative, and communicated Advising concerns to the Vice-Provost for Undergraduate and Graduate Studies office.
Stephanie has a Master’s of International Affairs degree in International Development from Ohio University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Howard University. A recent Fulbright recipient, she is an active liaison with the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs and member of the Georgia Association of International Educators and the National Academic Advising Association.
