APSIA Data and Diversity Fellowships – Fall 2018

APSIA is offering the following Fall fellowship positions:

  • Education Data and Analysis Fellowship
  • Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship

Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship

The Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA) seeks a Diversity and Inclusion Fellow.
Working with APSIA staff, fellows will assist in APSIA’s outreach to communities traditionally underrepresented in the field of international affairs.

Responsibilities:
o Assess the diversity of APSIA’s membership through background research and data analysis.
o Assist in the execution of APSIA’s Diversity Forum programs, including but not limited to
o Participant recruitment
o Speaker recruitment
o Sponsor cultivation and stewardship
o Document preparation
o Event support.
o Research APSIA alumni from communities traditionally underrepresented in international affairs. Create
social media, website, and other tools to share their stories.
o Identify opportunities to expand awareness of APSIA and its work within traditionally underrepresented
communities.

Requirements
– Current master’s (or higher) student at an APSIA member school.
– Experience working with multicultural communities, particularly in a US context. Understanding of diversity and inclusion in higher education strongly preferred.
– Experience with event planning and office management.
– Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills in English. Additional language skills a plus.
– Experience with MS-Office Suite, Canva, WordPress, MailChimp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, social media scheduling tools (ex: Hootsuite), and related tools. Basic HTML helpful.
– Eligibility to work in the United States.
– Demonstrated ability to multitask with minimal supervision required.

Compensation: $15 / hour for 10-12 hours per week (depending on the time of year)
At a minimum, the fellow should be available for a semester. APSIA would like to find candidates who will be available throughout the year. Candidates do not need to be based in Washington DC, but – if not – must be available for regular check ins.

Education Data and Analysis Fellowship

The Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA) seeks an Education Data and Analysis Fellow.
Working with APSIA staff, the fellow will collect information and provide statistical analysis. They will describe and forecast trends in data as related to APSIA member schools’ experiences.

Responsibilities:
o Develop 8+ surveys per year to collect APSIA members’ data
o Monitor results of each survey to ensure significant samples of responses
o Process and format results of each survey
o Confirm accuracy of responses provided to each survey
o Analyze results of each survey for trends
o Create reports on each survey’s results and trends
o Conduct comparative analyses with earlier APSIA data; clean up old data as needed
o Conduct comparative analyses with other organizations’ data
Requirements:
– Current master’s (or higher) student at an APSIA member school.
– Experience conducting quantitative surveys, research, and analysis. Understanding of data collection in a higher education context strongly preferred.
– Experience in trends analysis and/or forecasting.
– Familiarity with SurveyMonkey and similar information collection technologies.
– Eligibility to work in the United States.
– Demonstrated ability to multitask with minimal supervision required.

Compensation: $16 / hour for 10 hours per week
