2019 German Bundestag Internship Program and Parliamentary Scholarship – Berlin, Germany

This Internship Program provides the opportunity for American graduates  to learn first-hand about German politics by working in the office of a member of the German Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag). The program runs from March 1st to July 31st, 2019. During this time participants are enrolled as students at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The application deadline is June 30, 2018.

The scheme involves fifteen-week placements with Members of the German Bundestag. The participants are introduced to the wide variety of tasks carried out in a Member’s office. For example, they may find themselves drafting speeches, articles and letters or doing preparatory work for plenary sittings.  The exchange programmes of the German Bundestag are conceived of as exciting ways of teaching young people about the significance of friendly cooperation based on shared political and cultural values. This gives well qualified young people with a strong interest in politics from the USA, France, Israel and Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe and Arab region the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of Germany’s system of parliamentary government.

If you come from Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, France, Israel, North America or the Arab world, then you can use the International Parliamentary Scholarship of the Bundestag (IPS) to follow the proceedings in the German Bundestag for five months, three of which will be work in a deputy office.

Every year, the German Bundestag awards around 120 scholarships to young graduates from 42 nations. The program is under the auspices of the Bundestag President.

Goals are:

– To promote relations between Germany and the participating countries

– consolidate democratic values ​​and tolerance

– to deepen understanding of cultural diversity

– secure peaceful coexistence in the world.
