Fall 2019 Public Service Internship, Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (Atlanta, GA)

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (Welcoming Atlanta) builds upon Atlanta’s proud tradition of inclusion and welcoming by ensuring that our immigrant and refugee neighbors are seamlessly integrated into the fabric of our community as we continue to build a multicultural city that attracts families and businesses from around the world. Our internship program is designed to offer high school and college students experience in local government, and interns will have the opportunity to directly work with the Welcoming Atlanta staff on ongoing projects or have the flexibility to create and coordinate an effective and engaging project. This internship opportunity is open to students of all backgrounds and career interests.

Work plans are tailored at the beginning of the internship to each intern, but projects can include:

  • Engaging with constituents in the community;
  • Developing theories of change on effective community engagement strategies;
  • Promoting Welcoming Atlanta throughout the City of Atlanta and across social media platforms;
  • Creating talking points and memorandums;
  • Researching policy initiatives;
  • Assisting in event planning; and
  • Writing legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Open to all majors;
  • Multilingual and multicultural;
  • Passionate about civil and immigrant rights;
  • Interest in municipal government;
  • Knowledge in event planning or program management;
  • Experience in creating and implementing social media strategies;
  • Experience in graphic design;
  • Works well in dynamic and fast-paced work environments;
  • Self-motivated; and
  • Creative
