FP Global Thinkers Student Essay Contest

As part of our 2015 FP Global Thinkers Summit in Washington, DC, The FP Group is hosting the 2015 FP Global Demographics Student Essay Contest, with a focus on the opportunities presented by a rapidly aging world. FP gratefully acknowledges underwriting support by AARP for this program.

Every year, Foreign Policy highlights the ideas and innovations transforming our world through the FP Top 100 Global Thinkers Summit. From policy to business, art to science, technology to media to philanthropy, we acknowledge creative disruption and out-of-the-box thinking from every corner of the globe. FP Global Thinkers range from up-and-coming names to well-established thought leaders, and are unified by their ability to impact millions. Please see the list of 2014 Global Thinkers here.

This year, college and graduate students have the opportunity to to share their disruptive, global ideas with FP’s influential audience.

Essay Topic:
We are witnessing a profound demographic change: The world’s population of people 60 years of age and older has doubled since 1980 and is forecast to reach 2 billion by 2050. This has the potential to dramatically reshape every aspect of the global community, from health to employment, and economics to technology. From your perspective, what is the greatest opportunity presented by the aging trend, and why?

Eligibility Requirements:
Essay contest participants must be an enrolled student in a college or graduate degree program from anywhere around the world, and he or she must provide FP with a valid ‘.edu’ email address.
All essays (or questions) should be submitted to FPStudentEssays@gmail.com. Please limit your essay submissions to a maximum of 800 words. In your essay submissions, please include your:

  • Higher education institution;
  • Degree program;
  • Expected graduation year.

Winning Essayist Benefits:
Have his or her essay published on ForeignPolicy.com and recognized as the winner of The 2015 FP Global Demographics Student Essay Contest;
Attendance at The 2015 FP Global Thinkers Summit in Washington, DC on Tuesday, December 1st;
A travel stipend for the costs related to a roundtrip ticket to Washington, DC;
Overnight accommodations at a hotel in Washington, DC.

How Essays Will be Judged:
A tangible idea with the potential to create something of global value;
Feasibility of idea;
Quality of writing;
The submission deadline for all essays is Friday, October 23th. The winner of the contest will be notified by Friday, October 30th.
