Graduate Recruit Program, Congressional Research Service (Washington, DC)

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) Graduate Recruit Program is designed to attract a diverse pool of highly qualified applicants for a variety of positions that provide an opportunity to support the CRS mission of serving the Congress throughout the legislative process. Initial appointments are made for a period up to 120 days. Some initial appointments may be eligible for subsequent conversion to permanent appointments, contingent upon participants’ performance and completion of all degree requirements, and upon availability of funding.

Graduate Recruits may be hired at the GS-07 ($1,623 biweekly), GS-09 ($1,986 biweekly) or GS-11 ($2,403 biweekly) grade, based on the applicant’s level of relevant education and the needs of the position. While specific education or degree requirements may be required in some cases, the general education requirements for all Graduate Recruit positions are outlined below. Some Graduate Recruit positions carry promotion potential to higher grade levels. Staff in these positions are eligible for promotion after one year in grade and demonstrated performance at the next highest grade.
