About Lucy

Lucy’s passion for public service was awakened by a family tragedy in 2012. She is the mother of the late Jordan Davis, who was shot and killed at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida by a man who was objecting to the music Jordan was playing in his car.

Losing her son in such a senseless act of violence has helped fuel Lucy’s deep commitment to community activism and political engagement. As a child, Lucy traveled with her parents who were also community activists, attending marches and rallies in support of the civil rights movement.

Today, Lucy holds dual roles as the national spokesperson for Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action. She travels the country, speaking about the importance of common sense gun safety measures, discussing why they matter to her, and why they should matter to you as well. Due to her extensive work throughout the country, Lucy has garnered national praise and encouragement. She won “Mother of the Year 2016” by VH1 television, and was voted as one of Refinery29’s 26 National Treasures. She has appeared on Georgia Public Television, CNN, MSNBC, HLN, and TV One. Lucy also spoke at the last Democratic National Convention in support of Hillary Clinton, and has testified before Capitol Hill on the topic of “Stand Your Ground Laws”.

While gun violence is the issue most dear to Lucy’s heart, there are many issues that Lucy feels passionately about, including public-option healthcare, providing a living wage, and supporting a woman’s right to choose.
