Marketing & Communications for Global Commerce Intern, Georgia Dept of Economic Development – Atlanta, GA

Here at the Georgia Department of Economic Development we are beginning the search for this fall’s Marketing & Communications Account Management intern. The Department is the branch of state government working to grow our state’s economy by attracting investment, supporting Georgia’s businesses and creating jobs. Our intern takes on some pretty significant responsibilities and will gain experience in marketing (both international and domestic, including online marketing and building a social media presence), project logistics and management, event planning, and international protocol. We are currently recruiting for one for the fall 2018 semester, starting first week of September.

Practical Experience Gained from Internship
The intern will apply principles learned in school through practical hands-on work assignments in
international and domestic marketing and communications, project logistics and management, event
planning, protocol and international business acumen. This will be a great opportunity to learn about
economic development from the ground up.

Internship Duties
 Marketing
o Research and collaborate on content for marketing materials
o Support marketing campaigns
 Communications
o Organize and create briefing books for senior staff members and state leadership
o Compose social media content for external communications
o Communicate with external state partners
o Provide assistance in coordinating and setting up meetings with visiting international
officials
 Protocol
o Assist protocol officers in arranging travel logistics for visiting diplomats
o Draft official correspondence to Atlanta’s diplomatic community
o Draft official briefings for state officials and senior staff members
o Follow-up on diplomatic correspondence overseas
 Research
o Conduct company, city, regional and cultural research for economic missions
o Update country-specific information on trade, art, tourism and investment
 Event Planning
o Coordinate logistics for delegation visits, trade shows and conferences
o Network with international business community and Consular Corps at events

About GDEcD
GDEcD is the state’s sales and marketing arm: the lead agency for attracting new business investment,
encouraging the expansion of existing industry and small businesses, locating new markets for Georgia
products, attracting tourists to Georgia and promoting the state as a location for film and digital
entertainment projects, as well as planning and mobilizing state resources for economic development.
Dates of Internship: First week of September through first week of December, flexible

Work Hours: Seeking full-time (40 hours/week)
8:00 am – 5:00 pm, flexible

Compensation: No monetary compensation; course credit where applicable
Location: GDEcD is located in the Centergy Building in Tech Square at the corner of
Spring and Fifth Street and is MARTA accessible (Midtown or North Avenue
stops). Parking is also reimbursed.

Dress Code: GDEcD’s dress code is business or business casual
