Policy and Advocacy Intern, Vera Institute of Justice (Remote; New York, NY)

ABOUT THE POSITION

Vera works with others who share our vision to tackle the most pressing injustices of our day—from mass incarceration, racial disparities, and the loss of public trust in law enforcement to the unmet needs of the vulnerable, the marginalized, and those harmed by crime and violence. Vera has offices in Brooklyn, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, and New Orleans and people working in communities across the country. The primary responsibilities of the intern will be to provide outreach, policy research, advocacy and other forms of support for SAFE’s work, including supporting local campaigns for public funding for deportation defense.

The intern should be available a minimum of 20 hours per week, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm, from September 14 to December 11 (negotiable).

In addition to this being a paid internship opportunity, Vera will gladly assist the student in working with the school or program to receive academic credit.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or professional school program;
  • A demonstrated commitment to racial equity and social justice;
  • The ability to work both independently and with others effectively and efficiently;
  • Strong writing and communications skills; and
  • Advocacy and Campaign experience
