This external sponsorship/academic credit fall internship, beginning in September 2018, is an unpaid opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year or graduate students with an interest in East Asia and South Asia to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom in a professional environment.
This unpaid internship provides a pre-professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work experience related to the student’s field of study or career interest. It will provide an opportunity for career exploration and development as well as a chance to learn new skills.
Learning Objectives
Interns will have the opportunity to provide research assistance for Senior Fellows in the Center for East Asia Policy Studies (CEAP) and the Brookings India Project. Additionally, will assist with the coordination of seminars, meetings and public events, proofreading and editing, providing administrative support for CEAP and India Project staff, and monitoring current developments in East Asia and South Asia. Interns should leave the internship with a better understanding of how to conduct high quality research, interact with top scholars in the field, and identify key areas in need of public policy research.
Interns will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events as well as participate on Brookings sports teams and network with other interns throughout the Institution.
Education/Knowledge/Skills
Graduate or undergraduate student (who has completed their sophomore year) working towards a degree in a relevant field (i.e. international relations, Asian studies, political science, or other related field).
Qualified applicants will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in East Asia and South Asia, international relations, and U.S. foreign policy. Experience working in an office setting is desired, along with attention to detail, a sense of initiative, and a strong desire to learn and to contribute as a valued team member. Fluent or native-level English language ability, as well as language ability in a regional language are also preferred.
