The Research Assistant will support the Middle East and Africa Center’s work on Iran. Specific job duties are noted below.
-Provide research support to two Middle East experts.
-Conduct research and writing for The Iran Primer website.
-Monitor Iranian media outlets in Farsi and English.
-Provide administrative support as needed to include assisting with events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals of countries listed in a U.S. Collective Defense Arrangement per the Department of State. To see a list of those countries, go to http://www.state.gov/s/l/treaty/collectivedefense/index.htm.
A Bachelors degree in Middle East studies, international affairs, political science or related field required .
Fluency in Farsi (both written and spoken) required.
Excellent writing skills and Middle East expertise required.
Only full-time students in the Washington metropolitan area can be considered for these openings. The Research Assistant program is conducted through the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area (CUWMA). While preference is given to CUWMA candidates, it is not required that applicants are students of CUWMA member schools as long as they are a full time student in the Washington metropolitan area.
CUWMA members include: American University, George Mason University, Southeastern University, Catholic University of America, The George Washington University, Trinity University, Corcoran College of Art and Design, Marymount University, University of the District of Columbia, Gallaudet University, National Defense Intelligence College, Howard University, Georgetown University, National Defense University, and University of Maryland at College Park.
All USIP contract and employee positions are contingent upon the favorable completion of a suitability background investigation.
