Position description

The assistant director oversees the daily operations of the office, to include, for example, enrollment management, student advising, curriculum integration efforts, promotion, marketing and outreach, scholarship maintenance, portfolio management, program evaluation, and student billing. The assistant director provides direct supervision of the education abroad advising team, promotion and outreach coordinator, and financial manager and supervision, as assigned, of student workers, hourly employees, interns, etc.

The assistant director also manages the on-going development and expansion of UK faculty-directed programming, to include all phases of program development, implementation, evaluation and assessment, and long-term planning. This involves working with faculty and providing on-going training, facilitating matters related to academic planning, financial management, compliance with applicable policies and reporting requirements, and assuring best practices in health, safety, security and risk management.

The individual will also assist the executive director with aligning UK Education Abroad operations with institutional policies and protocols for academic programming, student services, enrollment management, and fiscal operations. Similarly, the assistant director will assist the executive director with campus-level advocacy for international education, which may require benchmarking research, data collection and analysis, campus presentations, serving on campus-wide committees, attending strategic meetings, and so on. The assistant director may be asked to represent the executive director at appropriate campus, regional, national, and international meetings.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will have international education experience, proven management skills, experience working with faculty, familiarity with budgets and financial management, experience with contracts and agreements, education abroad/student advising experience, familiarity with intercultural learning, and successful promotion and outreach experience. Candidates must have excellent communication and presentation skills, attention to detail, time management skills, and a high degree of professionalism. Desirable qualities include skills in outcomes assessment related to education abroad, familiarity with non-European countries and cultures, proficiency in languages other than English, and knowledge of StudioAbroad software.
