Department of Homeland Security Student Traineeships

The Department of Homeland Security is seeking applicants for their FEMA student trainee program. Interns will be asked to work full-time, school schedule allowing, and while telework is available, students should still be able to work in-person at the Atlanta office. Internships with DHS are temporary positions, and therefore typically do not exceed 120 or 09/30/2022, whichever comes first. There are two positions available.

 The deadline to apply for these openings is Friday, February 18, 2022, or when the openings receive 100 applications.

Qualifications

  • Current Undergraduate or graduate student
      • Enrolled at least half-time for the duration of the internship
      • Undergraduate GPA: 2.0+
      • Graduate GPA: 3.0 +
      • Must be in good standing
  • You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
  • You must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Selective Service registration is required.
  • You must meet & maintain eligibility under the Pathways Internship Program.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Government credit card.

Responsibilities

Technical Assistance Intern
  • Providing technical assistance to States in the development of disaster grant applications
  • Developing materials for briefings, training workshops, and conferences with other Federal Agencies, State and Local governments to promote Hazard Mitigation assistance
  • Working with internal and external customers to resolve issues
  • Analyzing issues and creating positive solutions within the Agency and other Federal, State, Local, and private sector partners

Data Analysis Intern
  • conducting analytical reviews and collaborative efforts to improve preparedness programs
  • Monitoring and reporting division’s organization performance management using data visualization tools, charts, tables, graphs, and other qualitative and quantitative analytical methods
  • Compiling preparedness program information for the purpose of informing the allocation of resources
  • Consolidating Division and Branch program area updates to meet RIV data calls
