SUMMARY
Friends of Refugees is a nonprofit organization that exists to empower refugees through opportunities that provide for their well-being, education, and employment. We seek to empower refugees in many unique ways–teaching English, engaging children & students, managing a community garden complex, running an 8 week summer camp, operating an Internet café, offering job placement services, and supporting expectant refugee moms, just to name a few! We connect some 1,500 volunteers a year with over 2,000 refugees, and hope to more than double that in the next few years.
Would you like to learn what it takes to be an executive director of a nonprofit organization? We are seeking an intern to work alongside our Executive Director. You will be mentored as you assist in taking ideas from beginning to end. This is experience that goes well beyond the classroom. You will provide administrative support, including drafting communications, solving unexpected problems, participating in board and administrative meetings, and interfacing with our different programs. This internship will be very fast-paced and demand high quality work. In order to be the best fit with the Executive Director, only candidates who are quick thinkers, energetic, enjoy a fast-paced environment, and can be highly organized without losing sight of larger objectives will be considered. A candidate must also be a strong communicator, have excellent written, presentation, oral communications and interpersonal skills. Large vocabulary a plus. The individual must be able to think creatively and strategically in a changing environment. If you can keep up, you will learn things that will prepare you to succeed in leadership and management.
Ten to twenty hours a week are requested. Applicants are considered year round, but they must be available for at least 4 months. Apply to HR@friendsofrefugees.com with cover letter and resume.
Requirements: Pursuing a degree or experience in nonprofit administration/management, business, or related field is preferred. Must have own vehicle, smartphone and laptop.
