Fall Internships with International Rescue Committee

The International Rescue Committee in Atlanta is looking for interns with an interest in non-profit and/or non-governmental organizations to join their various departments this fall.

Several IRC interns are Georgia Tech students and make vital contributions to the IRC in Atlanta’s work. The IRC in Atlanta provides an essential learning experience that serves as a foundation for interns to gain real-life experience and attain proficient skills in various fields.

IRC internships require a commitment of at least 15 hours a week for three months and are unpaid. Available internship opportunities can be seen here. To apply for an internship, each candidate must send a resume with a cover letter. They must indicate their preferred internship position as well as up to two alternates. Unfortunately, the IRC will not be accepting applications for Women’s Health and Wellness, as fall internship positions are not available in that department.

Internships here are organized in semesters, and the IRC is currently recruiting for our Fall 2015 Intern Cohort (please note, it is certainly possible to serve as an intern for more than one semeseter). The deadline to apply for this semester is July 15.

Interviews will be held with the relevant departments from June 15 to July 31. To coordinate with the busy staff schedule, applicants must include their regular, weekly availability. Interviews are held at the IRC office, and candidates with special circumstances will need to coordinate an alternate interview. Applicants  will be notified of their status beginning July 15.

Following the interviews and to protect their clients, the IRC requires all selected applicants to complete background checks. The IRC will ask that they make a $50 donation to help cover the associated costs. Currently, 92% of IRC funding goes directly to programming to support clients, and their help to cover this cost will ensure that no funding is directed away from serving clients.

Due to the high volume of applicants, candidates should submit applications as soon as possible. Submit your resume, cover letter, a list of internship preferences, and interview availability to the Volunteer & External Relations Coordinator at VolunteerATL@rescue.org.
