Fall Research Intern

Media Matters for America — a progressive, Washington, D.C-based, nonprofit research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media — is seeking Research Interns. Interns will provide support to Media Matters’ Research Department which monitors print, online, and broadcast media for conservative misinformation and is primarily responsible for generating progressive, fact-based rebuttals to inaccurate media narratives on a variety of issues. Interns will enroll in a 10-week Fall internship program with a flexible work schedule of between 20 and 32 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

Provide data collection support to research teams
Monitor TV and radio broadcasting and alert teams to smears and inflammatory comments
Conduct in-depth research on a variety of policy issues and media coverage on those issues
Summarize and flag emerging misinformation in print and online media
Aid in long-term research projects
Work with issue-specific teams on media coverage of issues like the environment, reproductive rights, LGBT rights, education, and gun control

Qualifications:

All interested applicants are encouraged to apply; the ideal candidate will be a junior or senior in college, preferably pursuing degree in journalism, politics, public policy, or related field
Interest in media and understanding of the effects conservative misinformation has on our public debate
Deep knowledge of current political and policy issues
Strong research and writing skills
Ability to work both as a part of a team and independently
Ability to adapt to new technologies and systems quickly and effectively
Working at Media Matters:

MMFA accepts applications for our internship program on a rolling basis until filled, and applicants are encouraged to submit their application materials early. We are currently hiring for our flexible 10-week Fall internship program, in which interns work between 20 and 32 hours per week. Schedules will be determined by mutual agreement between the intern and Media Matters at the time of the job offer.
