FAO Summer Internships

1. Communications Internship

The Liaison Office for North America of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Washington DC (FAO-LOW) advises and assists in the development and implementation of FAO policies and programs. It facilitates communication and cooperation between FAO and the Governments of Canada and the United States, and between FAO and the international and inter-American organizations based in Washington DC. Working under the overall supervision of the Senior Liaison Officer, and in close collaboration with Office colleagues, the communications intern will bring to FAO-LOW team excellent writing and editorial skills, experience with layout and design of communications products, as well as solid experience with social media outreach.  The intern will achieve the tasks and objectives listed below.

  • Develop and implement the social media strategy for FAO-LOW, providing guidance and advice to team members as required
  • Develop the design and visual and written contents for banners, presentations, information and promotion materials, etc.
  • Edit contents for the revised FAO-LOW website, adapting messages, language and visual presence to the needs of its target audience
  • Research, compile, and analyze information from various sources and draft contents for background documents, presentations, and briefs
  • Assist with the organization of events, including planning, logistics, documentation, and liaison with participants
  • Assist with outreach to the media, including the preparation of messages

2. Partnerships & Outreach Internship

The Liaison Office for North America of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Washington DC (FAO-LOW) advises and assists in the development and implementation of FAO policies and programs. It facilitates communication and cooperation between FAO and the Governments of Canada and the United States, and between FAO and the international and inter-American organizations based in Washington DC. Working under the overall supervision of the Senior Liaison Officer, the Partnerships and Outreach Intern will achieve the tasks and objectives listed below.

  • Research, compile, and analyze information from various sources and draft contents for background documents, presentations, and briefs
  • Assist with the organization of events hosted by the FAO Liaison Office for North America, including design, logistics, documentation, liaison with participants and evaluation
  • Review and finalize a document on FAO’s work in the area of food loss and food waste, based on available documentation, web research, as well as consultations with relevant experts
  • Develop an overview of Foundations in the U.S. working in areas of relevance for FAO
  • Prepare presentations for the Senior Officer on topics related to FAO’s mandate
  • Attend meetings on issues related to FAO’s mandate and provide feedback as required

You must be a Master’s candidate to apply for either internship. Both will start in March/April 2017 and will last for a minimum of 6 months.  The application deadline for both positions is February 28, 2017.
