Hansen Summer Institute on Leadership & International Cooperation

“Calling on all Georgia Tech students interested in international affairs and international business! The Hansen Summer Institute, based at the University of San Diego (USD) School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES), is a unique leadership experience and program in international cooperation. For three weeks in July 2017, five young American men and women will join with fifteen hand-picked students from a variety of developing countries and regions of social strife.

Selected American students will receive a $1000.00 award, with roundtrip airfare from their home city.  Get paid to learn!   This all-expenses paid, life-changing program allows you to experience the world without leaving the United States.  Students live on the USD campus, study together, work together, and develop friendships to last a lifetime.  You will learn leadership skills, public speaking, negotiation, conflict resolution and intercultural management through hands – on training from faculty and real-world experts.
Besides classroom training, American students serve as ambassadors to introduce our international fellows to cultural events including the fourth of July parade in Coronado, horseback riding on the beach, Sea World, and a harbor cruise.

Beyond building a “leadership toolbox” for resolving conflict and creating a better future, Hansen Fellows have the option to become social entrepreneurs. The institute features a three-day International Social Entrepreneurship Workshop.  Mentors, Coaches and Entrepreneurs help students make their ideas investor ready. Hansen Fellows will help decide which ideas receive grants.
The Fred J. Hansen Foundation has generously provided all funding for classes, room and board, cultural excursions, round trip airfare, and the $1,000 award for completing the program.

The friendships you make, the experiences you have and the knowledge you gain will help you better understand our world through the exceptional people who attend this program.   You will learn skills to apply in your everyday life, and create “resume capital” to help propel your career.

Don’t just take our word for it, check out the videos on our website(www.hansensummerinstitute.org ) to see what our participants have said about the program.   You can apply for summer 2017 on the same website.  American applications are due March 1, 2017.”
