Internship Opportunity in Criminal Defense Law

“The Federal Defender Program, Inc. (FDP) is a Georgia non-profit organization that provides legal representation to indigent individuals charged with federal crimes in the Northern District of Georgia as well as death-sentenced individuals in federal proceedings.

FDP has unpaid intern positions for undergraduates available to work on a volunteer basis during the fall of 2016.  Additionally, FDP has paid Federal Work-Study positions for eligible undergraduates.   Interns may apply for additional terms if desired and if available.

Interns will work primarily in the Capital Habeas Unit, which represents death-sentenced clients during the habeas corpus component of their appeals. Students will work closely with the Capital Habeas paralegal team and experience a variety of cases and projects. Responsibilities include organizing case documents, reviewing trial transcripts, and conducting research on capital punishment and case-specific topics. Interns will also develop professional skills and perform general office duties such as copying and scanning documents. In addition, students will have occasional opportunities to interact with attorneys, investigators, and other FDP staff, and attend court proceedings.

The Federal Defender Program is located near Centennial Olympic Park and three blocks from the Five Points MARTA station:

Suite 1500, The Centennial Tower
