National Defense University Internship Program

National Defense University is looking for college students or recently alumni to serve as interns for Summer 2014.

Duties & Opportunities

NDU interns are placed, according to their interests, to work with faculty and staff members across the University’s colleges, centers and directorates. Generally, interns are expected to work 25-35 hours per week, unpaid. Please consult individual components (see links on website below) for specific duties, which may include:

Research support as requested by faculty members to assist with publications, course materials, research and outreach;
Research, writing, and editorial support for online, print and social media publications and channels;
Assisting staff and faculty in support of specific University or college programs;
Administrative duties as assigned, including university-wide event support.

An internship at NDU offers numerous opportunities, including:

Participation in conferences, workshops, and other programs at the National Defense University featuring senior researchers, military officers, and diplomats;
Access to the NDU library and research resources;
On-the-job experience and professional development opportunities;
Membership in the NDU Young Professionals Community;
Experience conducting research and individual projects.

Qualifications

NDU interns are typically enrolled in a degree-seeking program at time of application (graduating students may apply). Interns at NDU often are majoring or minoring in international relations, political science, economics, or other fields related to NDU’s national security mission, and have completed some coursework in these areas. University-level internships are more suitable for applicants majoring in finance, communications, marketing, media, business management, public affairs, library science, engineering, and exercise science.

Prioritize, organize, and complete tasks with minimal supervision;
Use library resources to gather relevant data to support faculty research;
Work as a team player;
Communicate at a sophisticated level via written and spoken word;
Work amiably with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds;
Use social media tools for information dissemination and community engagement activities;
Foreign language skills are highly desired, but not required
