“NAFSA: Association of International Educators offers competitive, paid, part-time internships for undergraduate and graduate students in its Washington, D.C. office. Internships are offered during the spring, summer and fall semesters and are ideal for students who want to explore careers in international education, association management, or non-profit sector.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and each position will be filled as soon as a well-qualified candidate is identified. Please note that available openings vary term to term and some internships may be offered as joint appointments between two NAFSA units. CONFERENCE PROGRAM

“The Conference Program team is responsible for all of the content presented at the NAFSA Annual Conference & Expo, which takes place each May. Intern duties include:

  • Developing materials that will be distributed on-site to conference attendees at various events
  • Creating PowerPoint presentations, writing and copyediting various conference-related materials
  • Assisting with the production of the registration brochure and printed conference program”

EDUCATION ABROAD SERVICES

“The Education Abroad Services (EAS) team serves as a comprehensive source of knowledge and skills for direct-service, management, and strategy/policy level professionals in education abroad. Intern duties include:

  • Researching study abroad trends and issues
  • Writing marketing material for NAFSA events, programs, and products related to education abroad
  • Assisting in correspondence with members and creating tailored membership lists; execute departmental administrative duties and other tasks as assigned.”

INTERNATIONAL ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT & INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AND SCHOLAR SERVICES

“The IEM/ISSS team provides professional development resources for international student and scholar advisers, and for professionals working in admissions, recruitment, enrollment management, intensive English programs, credential evaluation, sponsored programs, and campus or community-based programming. Intern duties include:

  • Conducting special research projects related to trends and issues in international student and scholar services and international enrollment management
  • Reviewing, developing, updating online resource materials
  • Supporting meetings and sessions planning and supplementary material development”

INTERNATIONALIZATION SERVICES

“The Internationalization Services (IZN) team fosters the integration of internationalization within higher education. Intern duties include:

  • Assisting with the International Education Leadership (IEL) and Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship (TLS) Knowledge Communities
  • Assisting with the Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization program
  • Assisting with the Global Dialogue Fellowship Program, Latin American initiatives, and other special projects related to internationalizing higher education”

MEDIA RELATIONS & ADVOCACY

“The Media Relations & Advocacy team focuses on promoting the association’s public policy and advocacy agenda through engagement with traditional and social media. Intern duties include:

  • Compiling and analyzing major news media coverage relevant to NAFSA’s work, including issues related to international education, higher education, immigration, and foreign policy
  • Researching and supporting special projects, events, and press and advocacy campaigns
  • Updating and maintaining the department’s clippings archive, media contact database, advocacy member database, and other information resources”

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SERVICES

“The Professional Learning Services (PLS) team supports the training and continuing education of international educators. Intern duties include:

  • Proofreading and revising NAFSA workshop, online learning, and other training materials
  • Assisting with data management and analysis of professional learning programs
  • Supporting workshop planning and logistics; collaborating on special projects as needed”

PUBLIC POLICY

“The NAFSA Public Policy (PP) team advocates for policies that foster the exchange of ideas, create a commonsense immigration process, and encourage enlightened global engagement. Intern duties include:

  • Researching and monitoring legislation and regulations affecting international education
  • Participating in meetings with federal agencies, Congress, think-tanks, and other organizations
  • Assisting with planning and executing events”

VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT & REGIONAL AFFAIRS

“The Volunteer Leadership Development and Regional Affairs (VLDRA) team provides orientation and training for the success and development of volunteer leaders; support and partnership with the 11 NAFSA Regions; implements diversity, inclusion and membership initiatives; executes a transparent process for nominations, elections, appointments of NAFSA leaders, and national awards. Intern duties include:

  • Managing and analyzing data for NAFSA regional, leadership, and diversity initiatives and meetings
  • Collaborating with staff on departmental program development, coordination, and recruitment
  • Assisting in preparing regional and leadership event logistics and proofing handouts and materials”
