Job Description Job Summary:

This is an opening for a paid internship position in the Atlantic Council’s Millennium Leadership Program supported by Jeffrey A. McLean Foundation. This internship is unique within the Atlantic Council in that the recipient will receive a special stipend directly from the Foundation for their work. The stipend amount is $9,000 for a 15-week, full-time internship commitment. A Metro reimbursement is available per month.

This opportunity is intended to support qualified candidates with a demonstrated financial need who are unable to afford a full-time unpaid internship. Candidates must also possess US citizenship.

McLean Foundation; this must be submitted as one document with your transcript. Approval by the Jeffrey A. McLean Foundation is required to move forward in the application process.

Interns in the Millennium Leadership Program are an integral part of our team. With a small group, most of our projects are all-hands-on-deck and we encourage interns to actively engage in all program activities and strategy. This position will expose the candidate to:

1. Writing process for grants, business development materials, and articles;
2. Logistical elements of event planning and organizing;
3. Creating strategic initiatives within a think tank and project design and development;
4. Social media outreach and recruiting; and
5. Fundraising from public, private, and non-profit grant makers and sponsors.

Successful candidates will have a passion for international relations, an entrepreneurial ethos and a collegial spirit while also being an effective communicator and enjoying the fast pace and learning opportunities inherent in a growing organization. Candidates will expand their professional networks and help build new and innovative programs under the Millennium Leadership Program umbrella.

• Support recruitment of 2018 Millennium Fellows, including marketing, research, and outreach
• Assist in the development of new programs and activities in the MLP portfolio
• Maintain and develop the website and social networking strategies
• Manage program contacts and networks
• Coordinate event planning logistics for program events and activities

Spring internships at the Council generally begin in January and are completed in May. The deadline to apply is November 26, but applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and will continue until the successful candidate has been selected.

The Atlantic Council anticipates conducting interviews the week of November 27 and making decisions and notifying candidates the week of December 11. Candidates should plan to begin work the week of January 16.
Requirements Requirements:

• Enrolled in or graduated from a BA degree program
• Superior research and writing skills and the ability to produce quality work in a short time frame are necessary, as is a strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Experience with web management or social networking is a plus, but not required.
• Must work well with others and interact professionally with senior figures.
• Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or equivalent from a non-US institution.
• Must possess US citizenship and be eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
