Pre-Teach Summer Research

The Pre-Teaching Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (PT-SURE) is a paid research experience in a Georgia Tech laboratory for undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in secondary (grades 6-12) education. Participants will also have the opportunity to broaden their understanding of laboratory research and research methods. The program is in conjunction with the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC) and the Georgia Intern Fellowships for Teachers (GIFT) program that brings middle and high school Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) teachers together with researchers and graduate students in Georgia Tech laboratories. The goal of the GIFT program is to provide teachers summer STEM internships in university research laboratories and industry workplaces so that they can develop curriculum and lesson plans for the school year that integrate real world applications. PT-SURE students become an integral part of this development process over the course of the summer.  Participants may also have the opportunity to work with high school students participating in the Research, Experiment, Analyze, and Learn (R.E.A.L.) component of the GIFT program in the same lab.  The PT-SURE program is from June 10 – July 26, 2013.  The GIFT and PT-SURE programs work together to match participants and researchers as closely as possible to insure that all share common academic interests. PT-SURE participants receive a stipend of $3,000 and can register for undergraduate research credit.
