Job Description:
This external sponsorship/academic credit spring internship, beginning in January 2018, is an opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year or graduate students with an interest in foreign policy and the management of non-governmental organizations to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom in a professional environment.
This unpaid internship provides a pre-professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work experience related to the student’s field of study or career interest. It will provide an opportunity for career exploration and development as well as a chance to learn new skills.

Learning Objectives
Interns will develop practical work experience by managing events and projects related to issues pertaining to U.S. foreign policy. Interns will assist the Foreign Policy team by identifying outreach opportunities and learning how a professional public policy institution shares its scholarship with the public and policymakers. They also will gain first-hand experience in public policy and international affairs by assisting in the logistical planning and implementation of public events, private roundtables, briefings, and other meetings. Interns will assist in compiling and updating mailing, media, and invitation lists; proofreading, fact-checking, and editing project and research materials; briefing the VP and his staff; staffing the VP; planning travel and development opportunities; and will provide general administrative support.

Interns will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events as well as participate on Brookings sports teams and network with other interns throughout the Institution.

Education/Knowledge/Skills
Graduate or undergraduate students (who have completed their sophomore year) working toward a degree in the management of non-governmental or non-profit organizations, international affairs, political science or related fields may apply. Applicants must have a strong understanding of non-profit management and/or research. Familiarity with current international events and trends in global affairs, leading individuals, both academics and practitioners, is beneficial.
Previous experience in project coordination, administration, and communications is required. Intern must have experience working in an office setting and familiarity with working in a professional setting with high-level individuals. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and proactively. Successful candidates will have experience conducting and synthesizing research and have proven professional discretion as they will be working with high level information and individuals. Strong writing skills are preferred. International experience and proficiency in a foreign language are welcome in a candidate.
