UN CIFAL Internships – Philippines, South Korea, or Belgium

In 2017, Kennesaw State University, in partnership with CIFAL Atlanta, began offering a remarkable opportunity for KSU students to apply for distinguished internship positions at United Nations CIFAL training centers in three locations worldwide: Manila, Philippines; Jeju, South Korea; Antwerp, Belgium.

These centers belong to a group of 16 global training centers known as the CIFAL Global Network, which operates as an arm of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). CIFAL centers provide innovative training throughout the world and serve as hubs for the exchange of knowledge amongst government officials, the private sector and civil society. The eradication of poverty and hunger, the stewardship of our environment, the strategic reduction of risks associated with natural disasters, and the provision of skills required to compete in a global economy are only a few of the challenges that our governments and societies face. The CIFAL Global Network recognizes that there is a crucial need for capacity development in order to address these challenges.

While working together, the CIFAL centers address a wide range of issues, including:

Sustainable development and poverty eradication
Decentralized cooperation
Environmental sustainability
Urbanization
Gender equality
Health security
Public-private partnerships

Kennesaw State houses the Atlanta CIFAL center (http://dga.kennesaw.edu/cifal/), and subsequently administers this internship program with other global CIFAL locations to KSU students. They have decided to open up the internships to GT students starting this year. There are three internship locations/projects:

Philippines – http://dga.kennesaw.edu/cifalintern/philippines.php

Belgium – http://dga.kennesaw.edu/cifalintern/flanders.php

Korea – http://dga.kennesaw.edu/cifalintern/jeju.php

Each has their own application and specific qualifications, which can be found through the above links. Generally speaking, they are looking for students in INTA, EIA, PubP, and related fields. Belgium is for Master’s students only, but the other two are open to Juniors, Seniors, and Master’s. Students must apply through KSU by March 30.  Internships are unpaid. Interns will be asked to pay a $150 admin fee to KSU since they coordinate the process and placements.
