Summer Program Opportunities in Estonia

1. After the Empire: The Collapse of Communism and Beyond

“The aim of this programme is to introduce the crucial changes in two Baltic societies, brought up by the collapse of communism. The programme will introduce the challenges and achievements of social, economic and political reforms and their past, present and future impacts on local as well as on international scale. Students will learn of state-of-the-art achievements generated by quick and efficient transformation from state-controlled economic system into free market economy. Students may choose to participate in the 2-week program or the 3-week program.

This programme is a joint course offered by two leading universities:

  • University of Tartu – established in 1632 and one of the most well-known and oldest universities in the Baltic Sea area;
  • University of Latvia – established in 1919 and listed as one of the leading universities in Latvia;

in  Riga, the capital of Latvia and Tallinn, the capital of Estonia.  (The 3-week program will include a week in Tartu, Estonia).

Credits: 7 ECTS  (2-week program is 4 Credits)
Application deadline: 14 May, 2017
Programme fee: 1985 (2-week program is 1590 €) includes tuition, accommodation with breakfast, transportation during the programme between the countries (Latvia-Estonia) and cities, cost of the study visits, cultural and social programme and the services of the host university. Students are responsible for their travel from their home country to Riga and from Tartu to their home country.
Payment deadline: 1 June, 2016.”

 

2. European Encounters: Diversity and Integration from East to West

“The programme introduces the European Union, European Institutions, (shared) foreign policy and new challenges. The programme will study both the development towards a united Europe and the enduring diversity of national policy, law and geopolitical background that the member states have to deal with in the process of European integration.

The programme takes place in two coutries and three cities:  Utrecht (the Netherlands) and in Estonia: Tartu – the University town and Pärnu – the coastal “summer capital”.  The programme will take place from 2-29 July, 2017 (including arrival and departure dates).

This 4-week joint programme on European integration in organised in co-operation between the Utrecht University’s Summer School and the International Summer University of the University of Tartu.

Programme fee: 2050 € – includes tuition, accommodation (also breakfast included in Estonia), transportation during the programme between the countries (the Netherlands-Estonia) and cities, cost of the study visits, cultural and social programme and the services of the host university. Students are responsible for their travel from their home country to Utrecht and from Pärnu to their home country.
Payment deadline: 1 June, 2017.”

3. EU-Russian Relations and Baltic Regional Security

“The program will introduce the challenges and achievements of Estonian social, economic and political reforms and their past, present and future impacts on local as well as on international scale. Students will learn of state-of-the-art achievements generated by quick and efficient transformation from state-controlled economic system into free market economy. Matters of foreign policies of the countries of the Baltic Sea region and the ever-changing EU-Russian relations illustrate the complexity of Estonian political and social transformation.

The programme takes place in two different cities of Estonia: Tartu – the University town and Pärnu – the coastal “summer capital”.  The programme will take place from 16-29 July, 2017 (including arrival and departure dates).

Programme fee: 1395 € – includes tuition, accommodation with breakfast, transportation during the programme between the cities, cost of the study visits, cultural and social programme and the services of the host university.  Students are responsible for their travel from their home country to Tartu and from Pärnu to their home country.
