John Lewis Young Leaders Fellowship Application Open

As a John Lewis Young Leaders Fellow, you will complete a year-long capstone project where you identify a social issue you are passionate about, then propose and implement a possible solution(s). Your fellowship will kick off at the end of Summer, prior to the Fall semester, in a series of virtual On-Boarding meetings where you will meet other Fellows at universities across the country, go through on-going trainings/workshops, and draft the foundation of your capstone project. The goal is to ensure you are able to integrate your lived experience and academic insight to practical implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS
– Interested in learning about the theories of social change and how they have evolved over time
– Committed to social justice and willingness to take action to dismantle systems of oppression
– Ability and comfort in collaborating with other student and community leaders towards social change
– Can commit at a minimum of 10 hours a month to the completion of a capstone project

FELLOWSHIP BENEFITS
– $2000 professional stipend (paid $1000 a semester fall/spring)
– Agency to focus on elevating social issues that motivate and inspire YOU
– $1000 in funding for events and activities related to the completion of your capstone project

– Retreat in Summer of 2024, culminating your fellowship in San Juan, PR

RESPONSIBILITIES
– Attend 3-6 virtual On-Boarding and social change trainings/workshops late Summer into September
– Meet with RFK staff monthly for 1-on-1 coaching and opportunities to hear from your Fellowship peers
– Make progress toward completing your capstone project
– Attend quarterly leadership seminars led by influencers, activists, and organizing experts
– Present an overview of the impact and reach of your capstone project in an exit interview

FYI + FAQ
– Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all positions have been filled
– Applicants will be notified of next steps within two weeks (10 business days) after submission
We are currently only accepting applications from undergraduate students in the United States
– Applicants are applying to serve as fellows in the 2023/2024 academic year
– Fellows serve for a term of one academic year beginning in August and concluding in May
