United Nations Association USA Fellowship

A first-of-its-kind scholarship, it provides financial support for US undergraduates, recent graduates, and first year masters-students who have secured unpaid internships with the United Nations.

If you’re in the process of applying for a UN internship, you may be eligible for our new UNA-USA Fellowship. Recognizing American undergraduates and recent grads in unpaid internships with the UN, this initiative aims to offset your internship expenses so you can keep on making the world a better place.

This fellowship is open only to U.S. citizens.

UNA-USA Fellowships enhance the UN internship experience through:

  • Online networking with individuals from the field to broaden knowledge and career pathways
  • Free one-year UNA-USA membership, including access to webcasts, career symposiums, and summits at the UN and in Washington, DC
  • Engagement with UN officials, policymakers, and activists to learn more about the work of the UN and its agencies
  • Opportunities to publish your experience with the UN
Deadline: Rolling
The maximum award is up to $3000 per month, for up to four months, for full time internships; up to $1500 per month, for up to four months, for part time internships.
Internships can be with any UN Office anywhere in the world. To be eligible for funding under the UNA-USA Fellowship, the applicant must have confirmation of assignment with a recognized UN agency.

Disclaimer – Stipends for the UNA-USA Fellowship are not guaranteed and are based on the availability of funding.

This is a competitive process, so not all candidates who apply will receive funding. That’s why it’s essential to apply early and reach out if you have any questions. Additionally, this program is only available to UN interns with U.S. citizenship. Family members of UN staff, UN Foundation staff, and UNA-USA staff are not eligible to apply.

Fellows must also comply with any rules associated with their internship, participate in periodic surveys and workshops, and publish at least one blog on their experience. Fellows are also asked to help us spread the word about the program through career workshops and other occasional gatherings.
