More about I2S:
I2S is a competition for current Georgia Tech students and recent alumni who have an early stage product or service idea aimed at creating a better world. I2S is primarily a competition of ideas, where creativity, imagination, and technology are applied to the solving some of today’s most challenging social and environmental problems.
The program acts as an incubator for ideas that have potential to create social value. Pre-competition workshops are designed to help students refine ideas, create feasible business models and develop greater understanding of financing options. Executives and leaders from the community participate as judges and mentors. The monetary prizes and service package sponsorships provide necessary seed money to begin moving highly-feasible projects from the idea stage to implementation. For the 2012 competition over $10,000 in prizes will be awarded.
Winning ideas from previous years include: Time for Life – a watch that uses symbols to help AIDS patients in third world countries keep up with their medication; One Motion Syringe – a medical device designed to increase the ease and precision of delivering vaccinations; and Urban Repeal – urban composting centers that transform food waste into fuel for new crops.
