Refugee Services Division Intern, U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants- Arlington, VA

USCRI is looking to fill two internship positions within our Refugee Services Division (RSD) program. RSD interns gain unique insight on the refugee resettlement process and related domestic refugee programs, and are able to see how these programs are managed at the national level. RSD interns assist the team on a wide range of projects including assisting with the processing of refugee family reunification applications, producing communications tools such as the RSD newsletter, and developing training and technical assistance tools for USCRI’s network of national affiliate agencies. The work of RSD interns enables USCRI’s affiliate staff to more effectively serve refugee clients and learn about best practices from across the USCRI network. RSD internships are designed to be both educational and practical. Interns will learn how apply their own knowledge and skills to a professional, national nonprofit headquarters environment and are provided with opportunities to attend in-house and outside topical and professional development trainings. Interns will assist under the direction of our Associate Director of Resettlement.

You Will Learn How To:

Gain and apply knowledge of domestic refugee resettlement programs, specifically the U.S. Reception and Placement (RP) and Matching Grant Programs from the national refugee resettlement agency headquarters perspective.
Enhance knowledge of program management processes, nonprofit management, and national-level communications skills. Develop technical assistance resources and products, such as newsletters and online training programs. Attend in-house and outside training and professional development activities related to refugee resettlement and program management.

An interest in refugee issues, resettlement, immigration, human rights, international affairs, and related topics. A strong work ethic, ability to work independently or as part of a team, and ability to follow direction. Strong proof-reading, researching, and writing skills. Computer literacy (experience with the Microsoft Office suite and database software preferred). Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a sense of humor. Internship Details: This internship begins September 5, 2017 and requires a 10-week commitment. USCRI internships require a minimum of 20 hours per week and interns may not be in the office more than 8 hours per day. The internship is located in Crystal City-Arlington, VA, 15 minutes from DC.

Compensation: Part-time (20-30 hrs. per week): up to $160 stipend per month
Full-time (30-40): $240 stipend per month
Local travel expenses to and from the office are also reimbursed, up to a maximum of $20 per day
