Law Energy Security in International Law Conference

The Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law,

The Dean Rusk Center for International Law and Policy, and the University of Georgia School of Law cordially invite you to attend:

Striking the Right Balance:

Energy Security in International Law

This daylong conference will take place in the Larry Walker Room of Dean Rusk Hall (4th floor) at the University of Georgia School of Law on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.  We are pleased to welcome Commissioner William C. Ostendorff of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as our

keynote speaker.

Energy security is a complex, multi-faceted, and pressing legal issue that encompasses a range of economic and security interests.  Conference participants are challenged to consider what the concept of “energy security” means in a legal context and also to question what the right balance is in forging a strong and sustainable energy security strategy in the midst of competing legal paradigms of investment, national security, environmental, international trade, and energy regulatory law.

Conference participants will include leading legal scholars and practitioners in the field of energy law, international energy governance, global crisis management, and environmental law, as well as individuals from the French embassy, the German embassy, and General Electric.  The event will provide an excellent opportunity to network and ask questions of some of the top legal scholars, practitioners, and policy makers in this field. Interested undergraduate students will be given the option of touring the law school and speaking with current law students following the final panel.  Conference sponsors are the Dean Rusk Center and the University of Georgia School of Law.  Attendance is free and all are welcome to attend.  Spaces are already filling up fast, and those wishing to reserve their spot to attend lunch and the keynote address should register by Tuesday, January 31, 2012.
