The Health, Social and Economics Research Division of RTI International has an opening for an Economist 1.  This position requires a background in research as well as a strong academic record; a minimum of a 3.5 GPA is required, transcripts will be requested.  The Economist 1 must be highly organized, have excellent communication and time management skills and the ability to multitask.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist in the creation of scientific publications and technical reports by providing qualitative and quantitative research support for senior staff
• Review scientific and medical literature to identify specific findings
• Compile databases by combining information from one or more sources using excel or other database software
• Perform economic and statistical analyses
• Prepare tables and write sections of reports
• Compile meeting notes and manage basic project correspondence

QUALIFICATIONS
• BA in Economics required; minimum GPA 3.5
• Quantitative research experience or course work in applied economics
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft word and excel

MAJOR DUTIES:
• Plays a role in the study, review and adjustment of the strategies, concepts, programs and budgets required to support OSD policy and program planning guidance.
• Identifies and focuses senior policy attention on issues with major defense policy, national security, or international security implications.
• Participates in the study, review, and adjustment of the programs and budgets needed to support Department strategies, concepts, and plans.
• Initiates independent analyses of high complex policy, strategy, concept, and program issues, force posture alternatives, and implications of broad changes to the international environment and defense programs.
• Takes a role in managing team projects, including actively encouraging communication, coordination, innovation, and high quality team products.
• Provides advice at the ASD and higher level on key strategy, planning, programming, and budgeting, and policy matters.
• Prepares briefings, presentations, and decision memoranda to support deliberations and decisions by senior management.
• Reviews and develops policy positions and responses to actions originating in other DOD and non-DOD offices or agencies that have implications for foreign policy and national security policy, strategy, program planning, and budgets.
• Participates and assists in the presentation of OSD policies and budgets to the DOD, Congress, other USG agencies, and the general public.
• Develops or contributes testimony or other presentations to the Congress; accurately represents DOD positions during contacts with Congressional staff; monitors Congressional action on DOD defense strategy, programs, and budget.
