Dr. John Swegle is a Senior Advisory Scientist at the Savannah River National Laboratory in Aiken, SC, where he has been since February 2007. His focus is the impact of foreign nuclear weapons programs and nuclear proliferation on U.S. arms control and proliferation policy. Prior to coming to SRNL, he worked at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA, and Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM. Over the span of 21 years at LLNL, his activities included monitoring the development of pulsed-power, high-power-microwave, and particle-beam technologies; participating in the design of thernonuclear explosives; and participating in, and leading, a section devoted to the analysis of foreign nuclear weapons programs. Before that, at Sandia Labs, he was a member of the Plasma Theory Group. He is a graduate of Cornell University, where he obtained PhD and MS degrees in Applied Physics, and the University of Washington, where he earned BSEE and MSEE degrees.
