CERT Class on October 6-8, 2009 at the CRC in room 249

The GA Tech Office of Emergency Preparedness is happy to announce that we will be offering our next Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT) training October 6-8, 2009 at the CRC in room 249!  CERT is a nationally sponsored volunteer program that trains individuals how to sustain themselves and their communities during the first 72 hours following a disaster.  Once trained, GT-CERT participants will be able to provide the following services to their community:

* Increase community disaster readiness

* Assess damage after a disaster

* Extinguish small fires and teach fire safety

* Perform light search & rescue operations

* Perform triage and provide medical services to the injured

* Organize procurement of supplies

CERT training provides the basic skills that you need during a disaster in a fun and hands on environment!  The course dates and times are listed below:

Class 1: October 6, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Class 2: October 7, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Class 3: October 8, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Classes will be held at the Campus Recreation Center in room 249. Participants must attend all classes to obtain certification.  The program is open to everyone (students, faculty, and staff) and is free of charge.  Please reply as soon as possible to reserve a seat.  If you are a CERT graduate, or unable to attend CERT classes this time, please forward this message to as many people who you think would benefit.   Benefit how? Being a CERT graduate:

1) makes you more valuable to your organization and to Ga Tech

2)Skills learned are useful at home as well as on the job

3)you are eligible to participate in drills and  exercises on campus

4) In a real emergency, you could be in a position to save a life.

Also, if you are interested in more information about the overall program, I have attached an informational flyer and you can visit http://www.citizencorps.gov/cert/index.shtm.  I look forward to seeing you in the classes…I know that you will enjoy them!
