Culture Fest 2012

The Office of International Education has been collaborating closely with Culture Tech in order to organize Culture Fest 2012, a week-long celebration of culture through food, music, dancing, and film, from April 2 to April 9.

For over 30 years, Culture Tech has worked closely with the Office of International Education to bring the Georgia Tech community a week-long celebration of the many cultures, nations, and ethnicities represented at Tech. This year, Culture Tech invites all members of the Georgia Tech community to enjoy these festivities through food, dance, singing, and performance!

Food Fest

Monday April 2, 12-2p

Skiles Walkway and Campanile Plaza

Cost: $5

Join over 500 GT students, faculty, and staff as they sample over 20 different dishes from across the globe, all under one tent! Eight different cultural student organizations will prepare a variety of food for the Georgia Tech community to enjoy. Be sure to try out each dish- they will be sure to pique your taste buds!

 

Language Café

Monday April 2, 12-2p

Skiles Walkway and Campanile Plaza

Come and practice basic greetings and phrases with native foreign language speakers from the Language Institute! Learn how to write your name in Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and other languages. Don’t forget to ask about the Language Institute’s Conversation Partner Program and One Project.

 

International Karaoke Night

Tuesday April 3, 7-9p

Under The Couch

Come and sing your heart out to your favorite songs, international or otherwise, at Under the Couch! Bring your friends and enjoy their attempts to sing like Shakira or their favorite K-Pop group!

Free snacks and refreshments will be provided.

 

Ritmo Latino

Wednesday April 4, 7-9p

Tech Rec

Join GT Salsa, the Latino Student Organization and a GT instructor of Zumba (a Latin inspired fitness program) for a night of Latin dance performances and instruction. These experienced dancers will perform for members of the GT community and give Ritmo Latino attendees the opportunity to learn the fundamental steps to a variety of Latin dances such as salsa, meringue, mambo and cumbia (dances that Zumba is based upon).

After learning some basic moves, everyone will have the opportunity to practice their new moves in an informal setting. It will be sure to be a night of music, dance and fun.

 

International Movie Night

Friday April 6, 7-9p

Student Success Center- Clary Theater

Culture Tech is proud to bring the Georgia Tech community International Movie Night in the Clary Theater! Alex Kerner decides to recreate life under communist reign to protect his frail mother from the shock of earning that her beloved nation of East Germany has disappeared. With the help of his quirky companions, he creates a complicated web of white lies.

Come see his hilarious struggle to keep communist Germany alive at our screening of Goodbye Lenin!

 

Holi Show

Saturday April 7, 5:30p

Ferst Center

JASHN: ICGT Holi Show 2012 is a cultural display of dancing and musical talent by students from major Georgia universities. With an expected audience of over 1100 people, the ICGT Holi Show is the largest cultural event of its kind in the Southeast. Most importantly, the Holi Show serves as a union between college students and the South Asian community.

Tickets are purchased through ICGT. Proceeds of the show will go toward’s India Club’s new service project, the Azadi Initiative.

 

International Coffee Night

Monday April 9, 6-7p

Tech Rec

Finish up the week by attending the Culture Fest Closing Reception/Coffee Hour. This event will include coffee, food, games, lots of interesting conversations, and the opportunity to take a picture with GT’s own Ramblin’ Wreck.
